Child Custody and Support

Establishing a Clear Path For Your Child's Future

As a parent, you want the best for your child, but it's not at all unusual to find that parents do not always agree on what is "best." That's particularly true when parents no longer live together. If you are having trouble seeing eye to eye regarding child custody, visitation, or some other family matter involving your kids, you can get help.

At the family law office of Swall Roffmann, P.C., we provide parents with legal representation in child custody and child support cases. We also help parents through the use of family mediation. Larry Swall has been the Executive Director of Mediation Achieving Results for Children (MARCH) the statewide family mediation program through the Family Support Division in the state of Missouri.

Parents rely on our family law attorneys when they are getting divorced or need a change in a child custody plan. All of our attorneys have an extensive educational background in family systems and post-relationship dynamics. We can provide both legal information and advice on family dynamics and family systems. This helps us formulate strategies to optimize parent-parent and parent-child relationships, making them stronger and better.

Contact us to find out how we can help you and your children build a sturdy foundation for the future.

Child and Spousal Support

Our office is well equipped to handle child and spousal support matters. Partner Andrew Roffmann is a former child support enforcement attorney and Larry Swall has served on the Missouri Supreme Court Child Support Guideline Review Committee and teaches child support calculations and issues to lawyers and family mediators across the State of Missouri. Support issues in Missouri and Kansas are based upon balancing the needs of children with the financial capacity of parents. It is not rocket science as many people think. Our attorneys will work with you not only to explain how support is determined, but to find creative ways to maximize the limited financial resources that families experience when separating.

Parenting Coordination for High-Conflict Families

Parenting coordination is a service provided to couples who are struggling with parenting after separation or divorce. The role of the parent coordinator is to facilitate and arbitrate everyday family conflicts, with the hope that it will help people learn better ways to resolve the conflicts that inevitably arise while raising children. Attorney Swall is one of the few trained parenting coordinators for families in Missouri.

If you wish to work with a parent coordinator, the coordinator's role is to help you make the child custody and parenting plan developed by the court work for your family. The coordinator works with you and your former partner to resolve conflicts when there are disagreements about how the parenting plan should be implemented.

Parent coordination involves both facilitation and arbitration. If parents cannot reach agreement about an issue, the coordinator then has the authority to make a decision for them. Minor changes and deviations to a parenting plan can be made through the parent coordination process; major decisions must go back to family court.
