Finding Middle Ground in Divorce and Custody Cases
When family situations change — as they do during a divorce or when child custody is changing — what people want most is to feel is that they can regain control of their lives. Leaving property division and child custody and visitation decisions up to a family law judge is not only expensive, it takes these important decisions out of your hands and puts your future in the hands of a judge.
But you do have options.
At the Liberty, Missouri law office of Swall Roffmann, P.A., we are committed to helping divorcing couples and parents take charge of the important decisions in their lives. We work with clients throughout the Kansas City area, providing family meditation and parenting coordination services as an avenue of alternative dispute resolution (ADR). We are a family-focused law firm committed to helping you and your children build a strong foundation for not only yours, but their, future. Contact us to discuss whether family mediation is right for you.
Mediation Creates a Safe Environment for Decision Making
In mediation, a divorcing couple will meet with a neutral third party to explore each person's goals and needs in light of Missouri (or Kansas) divorce law. The mediator ensures the parties have the information they need to arrive at a decision, and helps them find common ground in their discussion. The mediator also ensures that mediation is taking place in an environment that is safe and free from coercion or intimidation.
In mediation, the final decision must be agreed upon by both parties. If agreement cannot be reached, you always have the option of taking your case through traditional methods of litigation.
Our attorneys are very experienced in family meditation in cases of divorce, child custody (initial or modification), paternity establishment, and child support. Founding attorney, Larry Swall, helped establish Mediation Achieving Results for Children (MARCH). MARCH was the first family mediation program in the country and has helped countless families to resolve issues more effectively and cost effectively.
Rebuilding Relationships
If you are a divorcing parent, it is important that you develop a new way doing the business of parenting with your former spouse in order to be an "effective" parent. Through your children, you will be connected for the rest of your lives. Mediation can build a bridge between the intimacy of marriage to the business of parenting, helping you get back to being the parent you want to be.
